On July 25, 2026, Beijing struck. Without noise. Without thunderous declarations. Just a Ministry of Commerce statement. Fourteen European entities deprived of Chinese components. Among them, Rheinmetall, the jewel of German defence, and Vigo Photonics, a Polish technological gem.

China does not respond to sanctions with fiery speeches. It responds with administrative measures. Silent. Surgical. Effective.

The Silent Retaliation

The official reason is reciprocity. The European Union has adopted its 21st sanctions package against Russia. Beijing considers that these sanctions harm its interests. The response is targeted: electronic components, defence equipment, sensitive technologies. Everything that can serve the European military industry.

The message is clear. Every Western sanction will have a Chinese countermeasure. No noise. No fury. Just administrative forms that block entire supply chains.

This is the silent technological war. And it is only just beginning.

Apple Caught in the Crossfire

Apple is a hostage. On one side, U.S. sanctions prohibit the use of sensitive Chinese technologies. On the other, memory prices have quadrupled in a year. Shortages threaten production.

So Apple is asking Trump for a waiver. To use ChangXin and Yangtze memory chips, two Chinese manufacturers, for all products sold outside the United States. A matter of economic survival.

But Micron, the only major American memory chip manufacturer, is opposed. A silent standoff is playing out in Washington. Trump will have to decide. Protect Micron, even if it strangles Apple? Or save Apple, even if it means depending on China for memory?

The dilemma is absolute.

NVIDIA Bets on America

NVIDIA is not asking for a waiver. NVIDIA is building a fortress. The data centre project in Ohio is a colossal gamble: $250 billion in guarantees for OpenAI, 10 gigawatts of power, over $500 billion in total investment.

SoftBank Energy is developing the site. OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, Google are interested. The goal is simple: dominate artificial intelligence without depending on anyone.

The message to Beijing is clear. We do not need you to win the AI race. We will win it from American soil, with American capital, in American data centres.

Taiwan, the Breaking Point

Taiwan is TSMC. And TSMC is 70% of the world’s advanced semiconductors.

On July 23 and 24, China conducted military exercises at Dongshan, facing the island. Simultaneously, the United States, Japan and the Philippines were conducting their own manoeuvres in the South China Sea. A naval and aerial standoff, a few hundred kilometres from the island that produces the chips the entire world depends on.

If Taiwan falls, 70% of advanced semiconductors fall with it. Apple, NVIDIA, Tesla, Google, Microsoft. All depend on TSMC. The silent technological war could become a real war.

The Raw Materials War

Much is said about chips. But without gallium and germanium, there are no chips. China has already restricted the export of these two critical materials. It controls a large part of global production.

This may be its most powerful weapon. Western sanctions can block technologies. But without Chinese raw materials, these technologies simply cannot be manufactured.

The technological war is silent. It is fought in ministries of commerce, in Washington offices, in corporate boardrooms. No tanks, no missiles. Just statements, waivers, restrictions.

But it is total. And it will decide who dominates the 21st century.
